- Approved
- Quad Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors
- Minutes
- April 12, 2005
-
- Meeting called to order: 8:10 a.m.
-
-
Attendance: Brad Sanford, Brian Wentz, Tim Rehbine, Mitch
Rehbine, Jason Anderson, Mary Divine, Chad Wagner, Faamati Winey
-
Others
-
Attending: Jim Nesser, Cheryl Nesser, Ann Smith
-
- Insurance: Cheryl Nesser from Jim Nesser Agency
passed out information regarding chamber insurance. She
explained that the part-time administrative person (Jeannie)
was an independent contractor, and according to the insurance
industry, needs worker’s compensation. The cost will be in the
range of $300-500/year, but some of the premium may be rebated
depending on wages paid to her. The premium would also cover
others that may get paid for doing chamber business. The
Minnesota Pool does not cover volunteers, so Cheryl will check
with a standard carrier. With a standard carrier’s liability
insurance for a non-profit, all events would be covered. She
recommended that the chamber be covered for broad liability
($500) and worker’s comp ($250-300 after rebate). She
recommended the chamber not insure for Directors and Officers.
She will get back to Jason Anderson after getting quotes from
standard carriers.
-
- Minutes: Minutes approved unanimously.
-
- Organizational: Jason Anderson discussed the role of the
administrative assistant with Jeannie, who wants to continue in
the position, will attend board meetings this summer, and
committed to prompt response to queries.
-
- The website can also be used as a communications tool.
-
- Minutes will be posted in draft form on the website, but
marked as “draft.” Mary Divine will notify the website manager
when they are approved. Mary Divine offered to do minutes when
Jeannie cannot attend board meetings.
-
- Carol Mahnke will continue to hold the chamber checkbook and
pay bills. Jeannie will send out invoices. Jason responds to
voice messages left on the chamber number. He will check with
Technapak to find out if there are any messages left on the old
phone number.
-
- Jason noted the chamber should consider a garage sale next
year as a chamber fundraising event.
-
- Financial: Financial Statement was unanimously
approved.
-
- Communication/Advertising:
- The Ambassador Club met as a group
and visited several existing chamber members. Members discussed
options for involving more members including:
- ·
Social events with guest speakers
- ·
Working more in conjunction with Metro North
Chamber
- ·
Golf events once per month. Members could be
notified by email and postcards
- ·
Once per month general membership meetings
- ·
Breakfast meetings where one member was featured
and could talk about his/her business
- ·
Diplomat Club that met with new members and
welcomed them to the Chamber
- If anyone knows of new businesses or someone that should be
contacted, call Mitch Rehbine.
-
- More chamber news could be sent to the Quad to run under
“Community Events.” The email address is
quadpress@sherbtel.net.
If anyone has anything to put in Quad events, send it to Jason.
-
- Mitch and Tim Rehbine will work on the Chamber brochure and
bring it to the next meeting. The number of members and chamber
involvements will be included. Members may want to revisit the
mission statement. It was decided to run chamber board photos in
the brochure.

-
Socials: Blue Heron Days:
-
·
Brad Sanford will check with the city public works
director regarding the softball tournament.
-
·
A mailing will be done about the golf tournament,
and it will be advertised in the next newsletter.
-
·
Mary Divine asked if others organizations can
still add more events. The Lino Lakes Economic Development
Committee is interested in sponsoring something, perhaps a
medallion hunt with clues at local businesses. Brad said the
chamber could sponsor with the committee’s assistance.
-
It was decided that the breakfast club, and the softball and
golf tournaments would be the focus of the social events at this
time.
-
-
Newsletter: The next newsletter is due out July 1. Brad
Sanford should be listed as US Bank, not Bank of the West. The
newsletter will be posted on the website. Tim suggested using
bulk mail if more newsletters are to be mailed out. He also
suggested having “return postage guaranteed” so it gets sent
back if the address is not current, as a way to maintain the
address list.
-
-
Members should have articles completed by the next board
meeting. They will include:
- ·
An article about the Ambassador’s Club
- ·
An insert for Blue Heron Days
- ·
An article on Blue Heron Days with photos from
last year.
- ·
An article on Fete de Lacs with photos from last
year.
- ·
Brad will talk to Circle Pines and Lexington about
getting more news from their cities.
- ·
Tim will do the City of Centerville and the new
administrator as a featured business, with photo of
administrator.
- ·
Brian will do a second business, potentially
Chris, the web administrator
- ·
Mary will do Community Corner
- ·
Brian and Chad will do a golf tournament insert
- ·
Chris (web administrator) needs to be added to the
new member list.
-
- Website: Chris, the web administrator, wants to
advertise, “as used by the Quad Area Chamber of Commerce” on his
website. Members agreed that would be okay.
-
-
New Business: Mitch told members about the “Good
Guy Open” at Majestic Oaks that has an auction to raise funds
for families dealing with cancer and if the chamber would donate
to this. It will be discussed at the next meeting.
-
-
Tim notified members there might be a
delay on the Washington County part of Cty. Rd. 14 because of
stormwater issues.
-
-
Next meeting: 8 a.m. on May 10 at Lino Lakes City Hall.
-
-
Meeting Adjourned, 9:55 a.m.
